A QUICK NOTE ON SWEDISH WHISKY
In the 1950s, the Swedish alcohol monopoly Vin & Sprit decided to start producing Swedish whisky. Copper stills were imported from Scotland, and experiments began with local Swedish ingredients.
Six years later, the result was ready. The whisky was named Skeppets (The Ship), launched the same year as the salvaging of the Vasa ship. But just like Vasa, it sank like a stone.
It wasn’t until the 2000s that things started to shift – with small-scale production and even aging in Swedish casks. Mackmyra Whisky was the pioneer. Today, there are hundreds of Swedish producers of wine, beer, cider, gin, aquavit, and whisky.
FLAVOUR & AROMA
Mackmyra Svensk Ek has a nuanced aroma with clear cask character and notes of honey, apricot, yellow pear, vanilla, and nuts.
The flavour is malty and balanced with a hint of smoke, along with pear, vanilla, spices, honey, and macadamia nuts.
The finish is warm and spicy, with a distinct oak note.
