Museum of Swedish Drinking Culture

Spritmuseum is a museum in Stockholm dedicated to Swedish drinking culture, alcohol history and the role of alcohol in society. Through exhibitions, art, tastings and interactive experiences, we explore how alcohol has shaped Swedish traditions, identity, politics and everyday life.

Our exhibitions combine cultural history with contemporary perspectives, from Swedish drinking traditions and alcohol regulation to design, advertising and the modern beverage industry.

More than a museum

The museum of spirits – in more ways than one. Spritmuseum explores both alcoholic spirits and the changing spirit of Sweden through history, culture and creativity.

Alongside our exhibitions, visitors can take part in tastings, guided tours and other activities exploring Swedish food and drinking culture. Spritmuseum also has a restaurant serving seasonal lunch, brunch and dinner, with a focus on Scandinavian flavors and Swedish beverages.

Board members

Vin & Sprithistoriska Museet was founded as a corporate museum for AB Vin- & Spritcentralen. As Sweden joined the EU in 1995, and the AB Vin & Spritcentralen monopoly ended, Stiftelsen Vin & Sprithistoriska Museet was established in 1992.

The board of directors for Stiftelsen Vin & Sprithistoriska Museet is selected by the Swedish government. The board members are:

A Historic Museum on Djurgården

In the mid-18th century, the southern shore of Djurgården was lined with rectangular galley sheds in which naval ships were kept according to the Venetian model. Only two of these naval buildings, numbers 16 and 17, remain; the rest were destroyed in accidental fires or disappeared in the waves of demolitions that prevailed in Stockholm during the 19th century. The galley sheds on Djurgården are two of only three such naval buildings left in the country. The buildings have been meticulously restored and repainted in their original red. Lomar Architects have redesigned the old buildings and transformed the sheds into a modern museum.
